Urban Aboriginal Youth Centre

Mission Statement:
"The Urban Aboriginal Youth Centre is dedicated to improving the lives of Urban Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal youth ages 10-24. Our primary responsibility is to provide services for Aboriginal youth with supports in life skills and wellness, cultural development, youth engagement, leadership, and community engagement."

The youth centre is located at 616 Mowat Avenue and is open all youth ages 10-24. We are open 5 days per week with occasional weekends. Open from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Hours will vary depending on programming.  Program calendars are available at the youth centre or can be viewed online at our Facebook group "Urban Aboriginal Youth Centre".

The Youth Centre provides a variety of after-school programming
for youth in our area. Activities include:

Life Skills & Wellness:
-Cooking Classes
-Prevention Workshops
-Youth Resources

Cultural Development:
-Participation in Aboriginal Awareness Week
-Regalia Making
-Youth Drumming/Dancing
-Medicine Walks
-Craft/Sewing Classes
-Sweat lodges
-Attendance at Cultural Celebrations
-Healing Camps
 
Youth Engagement:
-Teen Dances
-Movie/Game Nights
-Youth Council Meetings
-Indoor/Outdoor Recreation Activities

Leadership/Community Engagement:
-Fundraisers
-Community Garden
-Community Clean-up/Beautification Projects
-Hand Drum/Drum Socials

There is NO FEE to participate in programming.

The youth centre also has a plasma tv, dvd player with surround sound, cable, pool, fooze ball, internet access, and fully accessible kitchen.
