United Native Friendship Centre Literacy Program

The program offers assistance to people in areas such as Basic English, English As A Second Language, reading, writing, math and computer training. Native language and craft classes are also offered.

The literacy Program was established in 1986 to meet the needs of both native and non-native peoples living Fort Frances and surrounding area. The focus of the program is to assist people in their pursuit to a higher level of literacy, education and chosen career path.

We at the centre also help individuals develop the necessary skills needed to function in our ever changing society. We will assist people in establishing both short and long term goals and provide them with the required studies to meet their goals. Delivery of the program is geared to each individuals unique academic needs and their diverse interests. With this approach we strive to enable the individual to function with greater confidence in the program, community and in the workplace.

The Literacy Program offers academic classes year round. The classroom is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Students have a choice of working on a one-one basis, small or large group session. English, math, computer skills and life skills are the main areas of study within our program.

The Literacy Program is always looking for assistance from the community to help serve the people who seek our services. If your interested in volunteering as a tutor or if you are someone who could use our services, please do not hesitate to contact us at the phone numbers listed on the web-site.
